What makes Green tea a preferred choice for most people?
There are many interesting teas in the market but the one that reigns the hearts as more and more people are consuming green tea for its low caffeine content and innumerable health benefits. Green tea is made from the tea plant named Camellia Sinensis. The two leaves and a bud is plucked from the plant and is dried, processed, stored and used in most households to make the tea.
It is mainly grown in China and India. It has origins in China and the story goes that the Chinese Emperor drank the liquor in which a pot of boiling water was being prepared and the leaves of the tea plant fell into the water. The Emperor found the tea rejuvenating. The liquor is now widely known as green tea. Green tea contains a catechin called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG).
Catechins are natural antioxidants that help in preventing formation of free radicals in the body and eventual cell damage. It is rich in polyphenols and is known to boost longevity. Green tea is mostly consumed after a brunch, afternoon meal, or late afternoons. It is best to brew as loose leaf tea and drink slowly. It is mostly taken as hot tea but can also be used to make iced teas.
Steeping green tea for too long can cause bitterness and therefor it is important to ensure the right temperatures during preparation. There are various types of green teas. Jasmine green tea is a luxury tea as the jasmine is meticulously and carefully blended to get the right balance of fragrance. Some are green tea blends combining lemon and ginger being the most favoured for daily consumption.
Green tea is undoubtedly here to stay as more people are beginning to embrace tea in their daily lives!
